Why we Love This Job!

Patrick and I have been Beachbody Coaches since the beginning of December 2011. We started by using Beachbody's workouts, loving them and seeing results. When we were introduced to the opportunity, we were excited (especially me!) about being able to help others get healthy and fit while getting paid at the same time! What an awesome job!

There are so many reasons we love being Beachbody Coaches! Here are a few!

#1 We get to help people be healthy & fit!
It is so rewarding to see people make positive changes in their lives! We love hearing about people's successes. It is so great to hear people tell us the little changes they are making in their lives (eating breakfast, exercising, eating vegetables, etc.), and then see the BIG difference those little changes make!

#2 This is helping us get healthy and fit too!

It is fun to be on this journey with the people we are coaching. It has helped us understand where people are coming from. We understand their struggles because we've been there too. We understand their successes because we've had them in our lives also. We love it when people ask us how our eating and working out is going because it make us accountable. It's also more fun doing this with a group of people cheering you on!

#3 I have been able to work less and stay at home more with our little girls.

It has been great to make some extra money so that I can stay at home with our two little girls (2 1/2 and 7 months). We didn't expect to make very much money from this at first. We thought it was a great opportunity, but didn't realize its potential. So far we've made just over $2,600, and that has helped us a lot the past few months! I have been working less outside of our home (only once a week instead of every day), and have been able to spend more time with our little girls. I wanted to work less after we had our second daughter (I was working about 30 hours a week), but I wasn't sure how we could do it. This opportunity came at just the right time!

#4 Beachbody has AWESOME products!

We love Beachbody's products! They have over 135 products. We had no idea before we started this! We had tried P90X and Insanity, but we didn't realize how many other things there were! Now we've tried P90X, P90X2, Insanity, Rockin' Body, TurboFire, P90X Protein Bars, Shakeology, P90X Recovery Drink, Beachbody's Meal Replacement Shake, E&E and Beachbody's Meal Planner. We are just beginning! We are excited to try more things!

#5 Beachbody gives you all of the tools to promote the business.

My background is in public relations and marketing. I love helping companies start from scratch and become profitable. It is difficult to start a business. Most businesses don't make a profit the first year or even the second. When I saw this opportunity, I thought it was awesome because I don't have to create a business name, logo, print materials, products, etc. All I need to do is promote them! That's the easy part, and my favorite thing to do!

We love it!

I could go on and on... :) This is awesome, and we love doing it together. It is fun talking together about how people are doing and how we can help them. We like bouncing ideas off each other and encouraging each other to do our workouts! It's a perfect fit for us! Oh and we love saving 25% on all Beachbody products! Awesome!

PRODUCT REVIEW: BEACHBODY'S MEAL PLANNER

Post by Shannon

Every Thursday we review a Beachbody product or workout. Today's review is Beachbody's Meal Planner!

I LOVE this meal planner!! It is so easy to use! All you do it make your goals (slim down, lose weight, get toned, etc.), it will tell you how many calories you need each day, and then it creates a customized meal plan to help you reach your goals!

It's awesome! It gives you five meals a day for three weeks at a time. It even gives you a grocery list! It makes it so easy to eat healthy. The meals aren't hard either. This is good because I'm NOT a pro chef! They have ingredients I've actually HEARD of, and they don't take me long to make. They taste amazing too. I feel like I'm at a restaurant when I'm eating them! This is perfect for us!

Here are a couple of my favorite meals from this week (I took these pictures):

Chicken in Creamy Mushroom Sauce, Garlic Toasted Potatoes and Spinach Strawberry Salad

Sweet Pepper Pork Chops with leftover potatoes and Blueberry Spinach Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette

Two thumbs up for the Beachbody Meal Planner! It's AWESOME!!

If you'd like to get this meal planner, all you need to do is upgrade your free Beachbody Membership to the Club Membership ($2.99 a week, which is $38.95 a quarter). You also SAVE 10% on ALL Beachbody products with this membership! AWESOME! :)

Recipe Wednesday: Grilled Teriyaki Apricot Chicken

We went to my parents' house on Sunday, and they made some yummy teriyaki chicken!! I had to share the recipe! We LOVED it!! My mom made some modifications to the recipe she found. So this is pretty much her recipe. :)

Grilled Teriyaki Apricot Chicken
2 whole chicken breasts boned, skinned, split

Marinade:
4 Tablespoons reduced- sodium soy sauce
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
4 Tablespoons pineapple juice
2 Tablespoons white vinegar
Worcestershire sauce

Basting Sauce:
1/2 c. apricot preserves
1/4 c. white vinegar
1 Tablespoon pineapple juice
Worcestershire sauce

1.  Mix marinade ingredients together in glass bowl. Add chicken breasts and marinade overnight.

2. In small saucepan, bring basting sauce ingredients to a boil. Turn heat to low and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes.

3.  Preheat broiler or grill. Coat broiler pan with non-stick oil spray. Remove chicken from marinade and discard marinade.

4.  Broil or grill 4 inches from heat, basting at least 3 times on each side. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes per side or until cooked through. Serve immediately.

Serve with steamed green beans, fresh strawberries with light cool whip and brown rice (we mixed brown and white rice).

Enjoy!

A Day in the Life- It's a Battle

Post by Shannon

It's true. Being healthy and fit is a battle, and you have to decide if you are going to fight it.

Every. Single. Day.

There's always something that can get in the way of you being healthy and fit. You have a full time job, you are a full-time student, you have kids, your phone doesn't quit ringing, you're too tired, you're sick, it's someone's birthday, it's Christmas, it's Easter... And the list goes on and on... There are so many reasons why people can't workout or eat healthy!!

The thing is, life is BUSY, and it just keeps getting busier. So unless we DECIDE to make a change, nothing WILL change. We'll keep going through our busy lives and stay the same.

In January 2010, I decided to make a change. I was tired of being overweight, depressed and out of energy. This was six months after I had our first baby girl.

To give you some background. I gained 15 pounds after we got married in 2007 and then about 47 pounds during pregnancy in 2009.

I tried to lose weight by walking after I had our baby. I walked every day for an hour for the first six months after she was born. This helped me lose about 32 pounds in six months, which was good, but I still had about 30 more to go!

If you would have asked me in college if I would have ever been in this situation, I would have thought you were crazy! I was always healthy and fit. Growing up I was a competitive gymnast (training 4-5 days a week for 5 hours a day), a cheerleader, a dancer and a long distance runner (I ran several 1/2 marathons and one full before I got married).

This was me in college with my little brother.

This was me at my marathon in 2002
I always thought I'd be healthy and shape, and not have a problem with gaining weight.

Well, life happened, and I did gain weight!  A lot actually! I was really depressed. It seemed like it would take me soo long to get back if I EVER got back!

This was me about a month after having our first baby in 2009

In Jan. 2010, I heard about P90X. I watched a few people try the program and have success. So I decided to try it.

It was the best decision I could have ever made! In 90 days, I learned how to eat better, and I felt better than I had in months!! I didn't feel depressed. I actually felt hopeful!

After P90X I did Insanity, and then I did a 1/2 marathon 11 months after my baby was born! I was able to lose all 62 pounds in 11 months! It would have taken me much longer if I wouldn't have done Beachbody's workouts.

In August of 2011, I had another baby. This time I was DETERMINED not to get depressed. I knew what to do this time! I actually gained about the same amount of weight, but I was able to lose it twice as fast! I started with Insanity, and then Turbo Fire

This is a picture of me about a month ago at our Shakeology Taste Testing Party. I'm feeling great! Beachbody's workouts have really helped me get fit and their meal plans have taught me how to eat healthier.

This time I was able to run a half marathon 7 months after our baby was born!

This was me on March 17, 2012 in Washington D.C. after my 1/2 marathon.

Beachbody's workouts and meal plans have really helped me accomplish my goals. They've helped me WIN the battle of being healthy and fit. It hasn't been easy, and I haven't been perfect at doing everything right, but I've been able to win the battle. That's all that matters to me! :)

WEEKEND CHALLENGE- Think about what you eat!

Ready for the WEEKEND Challenge?

Each weekend we have a different challenge! This weekend's challenge is to think about what you eat before you eat it. If you think about it first, you might think twice about eating it. It is easy to rush around throughout the day without thinking about what you are eating.

So this weekend, take a second to think about your food choices. Is it healthy or not? Is my portion too big or too small?

It is important to eat five small meals throughout the day to help you have more energy and lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

Here are a few ideas of what to eat more of and what to eat less of.

Eat more:

-Nuts (a small handful of almonds or walnuts)
-Fruits
-Dark green vegetables
-Fish
-Lean ground turkey
-Brown rice
-Wheat bread
-Berries
-Oatmeal

Eat less or avoid:

-White bread
-Doughnuts
-Cookies
-Cakes
-Cream sauces
-Ice cream
-Fast food
-Fried foods (french fries)

Let us know how it goes! Have a great weekend!!

PRODUCT REVIEW: P90X PROTEIN BARS

Post by Shannon

Every Thursday we review one of Beachbody's products or workout programs. This week we are going to review Beachbody's P90X Protein Bars

We've been using these bars for about three months. We were buying protein bars from Amazon, but decided to switch to these ones because they are WAY better.

There are four flavors:  Wildberry Yogurt, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Fudge and Cafe Mocha. You can buy one flavor or a variety pack. There are 12 per box. If you order Home Direct (HD), you get FREE shipping!

We like the Chocolate Peanut Butter one the best. The others are good, but the peanut butter one is AMAZING!

You can have one of these for a healthy snack, a pre-workout energy boost or an occasional meal substitute when you are on the go.

They are made with natural ingredients and no trans fat. They help support your weight loss goals while delivering healthy fuel to tone your muscles.

They are packed with 20 grams of protein each. They are much better for you than fast food!!

Beachbody has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee on ALL their products so you can return them if you aren't satisfied and get your money back. I'm pretty positive that you'll be satisfied with these though, especially the peanut butter ones!! They're really good!

Recipe Wednesday: Pineapple Teriyaki Pork Chops

PINEAPPLE TERIYAKI PORK CHOPS
Taken from the Biggest Loser Family Cookbook (It's only $8.78 on Amazon right now!!)

These pork chops are SOO good!

We could have been a little healthier and ate brown rice with them, but this time we had white rice. Remember, we're working on getting in shape and being healthy. We're not nutrition experts... yet! :)

We also ate this dish with a spinach raspberry salad with a lite raspberry vinaigrette on top. It was tasty! Our 2 1/2 year old like the pork chops and pineapple. She is hard to please, so we were happy! She has tried spinach, but won't usually eat it. We keep giving it to her and eating it in front of her. So she might like it someday. :) I wasn't a fan of spinach when I was little either. She loved the raspberries though!

The key with healthy eating and feeding your family is to keep trying. It won't happen over night. Make small changes to help your family gradually eat healthier. It will happen over time if you keep trying.

What you'll need:

Olive oil in a sprayer (not store-bought spray that contains propellant)
4 (4-ounce) trimmed boneless pork loin chops (3 1/2 to 4 1/2-ounce chops are OK), about 3/4" thick
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt, to taste
Ground black pepper, to taste
8 teaspoons honey teriyaki marinade and sauce - Ken's Steak House Marinade and Sauce is good!
4 slices canned pineapple slices in juice, drained

What to do:

Preheat the broiler. Line a small baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly spray the foil with oil.

Lightly mist both sides of the chops with olive oil and season with the garlic powder, salt and pepper. Place the chops, not touching, on the prepared baking sheet and broil about 3" from the heat for about 2 minutes (be sure to leave the oven door open a crack when broiling). Turn the chops and brush or spread 2 teaspoons of the teriyaki marinade evenly over the top of each. Top with pineapple slices. Broil for 3 to 5 minutes longer, or until the pineapple and glaze brown lightly and the pork is barely pink inside. Serve immediately.

Makes 4 servings.

A Day in the Life: Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon!

The day before the race at the expo

Last Thursday, March 15, I flew to Washington D.C. to run the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon with my little sister. This race was HUGE! There were 30,000 runners! It was definitely the biggest race I've ever been to!

I was nervous about running because I hurt my back a couple weeks before. I knew I could make it because I had trained well, but the back injury was definitely getting in my way!

My back was killing me from Wednesday to Friday before the race. I was really worried. I didn't want to hurt my back worse, but I really wanted to do it since I made the trip all the way across the country!

I couldn't sleep the night before. I called my husband, Patrick, at 12:30 a.m. and told him I wasn't going to do the race. He is sweet. He supported my decision. That must have been hard since he took time off work to watch our little girls so I could go to D.C. and run the race.

I didn't get much sleep that night. I was so torn on what to do.

The next morning I woke up at 6:30 and felt a little better, but not great.

The sunrise from the Metro

I decide to go to the race and run at least 4 miles. My friends that we stayed with said they would wait for me at mile 4. I wanted to at least make it to that point. So we got ready and rode the metro to the race.

This is me at the beginning of the race
We started the race slow. A lot slower that we usually run. I felt okay. I thought if I at least run / walk the race, I'll be happy.

So we ran.

We ran all the way to mile 3. At mile 3 we saw a man running with only ONE leg and crutches. We thought he was AMAZING! We couldn't believe he was running the 1/2 marathon with only one leg!

I thought, "If he could do it, maybe I could too."

So I kept running.
Running towards the Capitol

Mile 4 was near the Washington Monument. As we got closer I thought about stopping and getting out of the race. That thought only lasted a second because I kept going. My back felt okay. I knew I could go further, and I knew I'd regret it if I stopped then.

Mile 4 near the Washington Monument

Some people say running is a spiritual experience. I think it is. It's a combination of your physical ability, with the power of your mind to help you make it to the end, along with support from a higher power. I definitely felt carried during this race. I didn't fell like I was doing it alone. There is no way I could have made it past mile 4 without some extra help.

We ran all the way to the half way point. I knew if I stopped, I might not be able to start again. Every mile was an accomplishment for me through this race. My sister was an amazing support too.

My little sister, Kelli. She's 8 1/2 years younger than me.

I took ibuprofen before the race. I think that really helped get the inflammation down in my back. I couldn't take it before I left because I was nursing my baby.

We celebrated each mile we ran. There were rock 'n' roll bands at almost every mile with people cheering us on. I couldn't believe how many people were running the race! The course was packed with people the whole way.

At mile 10, a man passed us who was running the race BAREFOOT! We couldn't believe it! I thought if he could do it, I could make it to the end!

I made it all the way to mile 11, and my back was really hurting. I started to run slower to see if that would help. I really didn't want to stop and walk because I knew I wouldn't make it if I did. So I ran slower. This made it worse.

At mile 12, Kelli gave me her ipod to have some better music to keep me going. I started to run even faster. I knew the faster I went the faster I would finish. So I ran as fast as I could possibly run! I ran all the way to the finish line.

At the end of the race I saw a lady with a shirt that said, "I only have one lung, and I did it. What's your excuse?"

I realized I didn't have any.

We made it!! We ran it in 2 hr. and 20 min. This was our slowest time running a 1/2 marathon, but we DID it, and that's all that we cared about that day.

That day I realized there are no excuses for being healthy and fit. There are so many people out there overcoming huge obstacles. If you have the determination to accomplish something, you CAN do it. All you need to do is stick with it EVERY day and don't give up! You may make mistakes along the way. You may not see progress every week like you'd like, but as long as you are moving toward a goal, you are successful.

The possibilities are endless on what you can do, and there really are NO excuses.

PRODUCT REVIEW: P90X RESULTS & RECOVERY FORMULA

Post by Shannon

Each Thursday we review a Beachbody workout or product. This week we reviewed the P90X Results and Recovery Formula.

We've been using this for the past couple months. We LOVE it! It tastes great! It tastes just like an orange julius. It is great after an intense workout or a long run.

It is great to help with sore muscles. I used to use chocolate milk as a recovery drink after my long runs, but I like this much better! I put water in a blender, add a little ice, put the powder in, and blend it. I love it!

It is great to help you refuel, re-energize and reduce muscle soreness. It has four parts carbs to one part protein to ensure speedy muscle repair after intense workouts. It is now all-natural with no artificial flavors or sweeteners.

We give it two thumbs up!

A Day in the Life- It's a Skinny New Year!

Post by Shannon

On Dec. 15 I wrote a post called, "I'm Dreaming of A Skinny New Year."  I used one of the skinniest pictures I could find for the post. :) This picture was taken in the summer of 2005 a few years before I had my first baby.

I still use that picture for motivation. It is good to find a photo of yourself or someone you want to look like to motivate you and put it somewhere you can see it each day.

My goal is to get back to 135 (where I was in the picture above). Right now I'm 142.5. I'm getting closer!

This photo was taken last week. I'm so excited that I can fit into these jeans! That was an accomplishment for me!!

I have been on this weight lost journey ever since I had our second daughter in August. My first goal was to get into the 140's (I was in the 190's in Aug.) by February. I'm excited that I reached that goal and was able to have "a skinny new year!" :)

My second goal was to run the Rockin' Roll Half Marathon in Washington D.C. on March 17. I have been training for the race since last October. I was doing great with the training. My last big run was 9.5 miles! I was proud of that!

Unfortunately, I hurt my back... I was really disappointed. I have been so excited to run this race!

I have been going to the chiropractor, icing, walking, taking Omega 3's to reduce the inflammation and taking it easy. I am planning to fly to Washington D.C. on Thursday. My back has been feeling better the past few days so I am hoping to be able to do the race.

My goal right now is to at least walk / run it! I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned for Saturday...

WEEKEND CHALLENGE- Sleep 8 hours!

This is our daughter when she was 3 months old. :)

Each weekend we have a WEEKEND CHALLENGE to help everyone to make little changes in their lives to help them be healthy and fit.

This WEEKEND'S CHALLENGE is to sleep 8 hours each night this weekend. My husband and I have been struggling with this one lately! We have a 2 1/2 year old and a 7 month old, and our baby isn't very good at sleeping at night!

So we are giving you this challenge, and us, to sleep at least 8 hours a night each night this weekend. It counts even if the hours aren't continuous! :)

Most people don't get enough sleep. Look at the chart below to see how much sleep you and your children need each night.

Let us know how it goes!

PRODUCT REVIEW: SHAKEOLOGY

Each week we review a workout or a product. Today we are going to review Beachbody's Shakeology.

Patrick and I have both been using Shakeology since December 2011. To tell you the truth, we were a little skeptical at first. It seemed way "too healthy" for us. :) Before using Shakeology I was taking a protein shake each morning with fiber powder in it. I was also using flaxseed each day. Now I only use Shakeology.

Shakeology really does what it says. It helps you lose weight, have more energy and keep you regular. I lost 7 pounds in December (the hardest time of the year to lose weight!), and I attribute most of my weight loss to Shakeology. I was exercising and eating well too, but I wasn't doing as good as the other months. I took Shakeology everyday though, and that really helped me, especially when I was traveling for the holidays.

Here is a short video that talks more about it:

There are three flavors of Shakeology. I like the chocolate one the best, then tropical, and then greenberry. Patrick likes the greenberry the best, then chocolate and then tropical. Each person I've talked to that has tried it likes a different flavor. The chocolate and greenberry ones are smoother. The tropical one is vegan so it has a different texture.

We like to add things to our Shakeology each day. First we put some sort of liquid (water, milk, almond milk, orange juice, etc.), then we put the powder in, and then we put something else (frozen strawberries, a banana, frozen blueberries, peanut butter, honey, etc.). There are tons of recipes to try! That's the best part is there is so much variety.

Shakeology is great for losing weight, but it is also great just to take if you don't need to lose weight. It gives you nutrients your body needs each day.

We love it! We give it two thumbs up! :)

Recipe Wednesday: Tex Mex Salad

This salad is so good! We made it last night for dinner, and we loved it! I didn't get my own picture of it this time, but this one shows you how good it looks! It's so easy to make too. Enjoy!

Tex Mex Salad from the Dr. Oz Show

This salad is loaded with healthy fats and proteins that can help you lose weight. And the decadent sour cream topping is a nice source for diary. Substituting dairy for other heavier foods in your diet can help you lose weight in your upper body – but don’t overdo it. Make sure to keep a reasonable daily calorie amount.

Ingredients
Makes 1 serving

3 cups baby spinach
1/2 cup corn (frozen/defrosted or canned)
1/2 cup black beans
1/4 cup red onions, sliced into half moons
1/4 avocado, cut cross wise into thin slices
1/2 cup salsa
1 tbsp low-fat sour cream

Directions
Combine and mix all ingredients except the sour cream in a bowl, then top it off with the sour cream.

A Day in the Life- Before and After

The results are in! Yesterday was Weigh in Day. I was excited about my results!!

For those of you who don't know my story, I had a baby at the beginning of August. Six weeks after I had our baby, I started doing Beachbody's Insanity workout. I did that for 3 months (one month extra) and then started doing Beachbody's TurboFire workout and training for a half marathon. I am feeling good, and happy to be fitting into my clothes again!!

Here is my progress:

Weight lost from the day I had our baby at the beginning of Aug. until now:  53.5 pounds (this includes the baby).

Results since I started Beachbody's Insanity program on Sept. 26, 2011:

Total Weight Lost:  35.5 pounds
Inches off my waist:  7.5"
Inches off my hips:  5"
Inches off my arms:  1"
Inches off my thighs:  3"
Fat lost:  8.4%

Here are some before and after photos. I looked a lot worse when I started on Sept. 26, but I didn't take a photo. :) I'm NOT a fan of before photos!!!

I'm so happy I can fit into these jeans!! I bought them on Black Friday, and it seemed like it would take me forever to fit into them!! :)

Each week we review a Beachbody workout. This week is 10-Minute Trainer!

Ten Minute Trainer is a great workout if you don't have time, but want to workout. It is only 10 minutes a day! Click on the picture above to watch a video about it!

This workout is by Tony Horton, the guy who created P90X. He created this for busy moms, CEOs and celebrities who don't have time to workout, but would like to be in shape.

This is what comes with the program:

Total Body, Cardio, Lower Body, Yoga Flex, Resistance Kit, Customized Workout Calendar, Rapid Results Guidebook, Tony's 10-Minute Meals and 3 Free gifts (Bonus Abs Routing, on the go workout cards and a 10-Day Lean Jean Plan).

We haven't tried it yet, but from the people who we've talked to, they say it is great if you don't have much time!
