Weigh In Day: Feeling great!

It's Weigh In Day!! How did you do? Every Monday we weigh ourselves and take our measurements to track our progress. It's not about the numbers, it's more about making progress.

I didn't love my scale when I started this weight loss journey!! The numbers were way too high! The good news is they have been going down, and I've feeling great!

I would have never told you these numbers or shown you these pictures when I first started, but since they have gone down so much, I'm okay with it. :)

On August 9, 2011 when I had my baby, I was 196 now I'm 136 as of today!

On Sept. 26 I started working out. This was about six weeks after I had our baby.

I started using Shakeology in December and I noticed a big difference right away. It really helped with my progress.

Here are my results!

Start date Sept. 26, 2011:

Weight: 178, now 136
Waist: 39", now 28"
Hips: 42", now 34.5"
Arms: 12", now 10.5"
Thighs: 39", now 32.5"
Body fat: 33%, now 23.4 %

Here are a couple more recent pictures!

I have muscles now! :)

Still working on the 6 Pack, but it's coming!

A Day in the Life- Believing You Can Do it!

Post by Shannon

The hardest part about getting healthy and fit is believing you can do it!

After I had my first daughter, I felt so discouraged and depressed. I got up to 199 when I was pregnant with her. When I came home from the hospital I weighed 188. I have always been between 130-135. This was so discouraging to me!

Some people have babies and lose the weight quickly and others have to work for it. I'm in the "you have to work REALLY hard for it" category!

The good news is that I got down to 137 before I got pregnant with my second.

Then, during my second pregnancy, I got back up to 196. Now I'm down to 139 eight months later. This wasn't easy to accomplish for me. I wasn't perfect through this journey, I'm still not perfect at it! I have treats once in a while, and sometimes I even miss my workouts, but I'm consistent and I believe I can do it! That's the only thing that matters because I've gotten results.

BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT

The thing that has pushed me to reach my goals more than anything is believing that I CAN do it. I believe that ANYTHING in life is possible if you set your mind to it!

For example, when I was in grade school, I hated running. I dreaded it every time we had to run the mile, and I wasn't good at it either!

I made a goal to run a marathon. This is crazy if you hate running!! I wanted to do something that would challenge me physically.

So I borrowed a book about how to train for a marathon (since the Internet wasn't very popular yet in 1998!), and started training when I was 18. I signed up for the St. George marathon every year for four years. I didn't run it the first three years because I got scared and my running partners kept bailing!

Finally the fourth year when I was 22, I trained the best I'd ever trained. I ran two half marathons and a 20 mile race before the marathon. My running partner bailed again, but that didn't stop me this time. I ran the full marathon! It was amazing! I felt like I could do anything at that point!

THE MORAL OF THE STORY

So the moral of the story is that you CAN do it! You can do ANYTHING in life if you believe you can. You have to believe it too. It can't just be believing you can do it when it's convenient. You have to keep believing even when it gets tough, you get discourage or depressed. You HAVE to keep going!

WEEKEND CHALLENGE- Get Rid of the Excuses

It's the weekend! Are you ready for a challenge? Every weekend we have a new WEEKEND CHALLENGE!

This weekend we are going to get rid of the excuses!

Some time this weekend, write a list of excuses. These are reasons why you think you can't workout or eat healthy. Think about all the reasons why, and then write them down.

Here are a few of the common ones:

- Not enough time
- Not enough money
- Too tired
- Have a full-time job
- Have kids
- Have pets
- Going to school full time
- Not a morning person
- Never done it so why should I start now?
- Not motivated

Ok. Once you have them written down, look at the list for a minute or so. Then RIP UP THE LIST or you can burn it if you want.

Find a way to destroy the list!

Once the list is destroyed, make a new list of reasons why you want to be healthy and fit. Here are a few good ones.

- To have energy
- To feel good about how you look
- To fit into your clothes better or buy smaller ones
- To be healthy
- To be an example to your children
- To have energy to play with your children
- To look good for your spouse
- To feel confident
- To be able to walk up the stairs without getting winded

I'm sure you can think of more, but this is a good start. Then post this list where you can see it, and look at it everyday. These reasons will help you stay committed to your goals and reach them!

Get rid of your excuses! Get them COMPLETELY out of your life, and hold onto these positive reasons why you want to be healthy and fit!

Enjoy your weekend!

A Day in the Life- It's a Battle

Post by Shannon

It's true. Being healthy and fit is a battle, and you have to decide if you are going to fight it.

Every. Single. Day.

There's always something that can get in the way of you being healthy and fit. You have a full time job, you are a full-time student, you have kids, your phone doesn't quit ringing, you're too tired, you're sick, it's someone's birthday, it's Christmas, it's Easter... And the list goes on and on... There are so many reasons why people can't workout or eat healthy!!

The thing is, life is BUSY, and it just keeps getting busier. So unless we DECIDE to make a change, nothing WILL change. We'll keep going through our busy lives and stay the same.

In January 2010, I decided to make a change. I was tired of being overweight, depressed and out of energy. This was six months after I had our first baby girl.

To give you some background. I gained 15 pounds after we got married in 2007 and then about 47 pounds during pregnancy in 2009.

I tried to lose weight by walking after I had our baby. I walked every day for an hour for the first six months after she was born. This helped me lose about 32 pounds in six months, which was good, but I still had about 30 more to go!

If you would have asked me in college if I would have ever been in this situation, I would have thought you were crazy! I was always healthy and fit. Growing up I was a competitive gymnast (training 4-5 days a week for 5 hours a day), a cheerleader, a dancer and a long distance runner (I ran several 1/2 marathons and one full before I got married).

This was me in college with my little brother.

This was me at my marathon in 2002
I always thought I'd be healthy and shape, and not have a problem with gaining weight.

Well, life happened, and I did gain weight!  A lot actually! I was really depressed. It seemed like it would take me soo long to get back if I EVER got back!

This was me about a month after having our first baby in 2009

In Jan. 2010, I heard about P90X. I watched a few people try the program and have success. So I decided to try it.

It was the best decision I could have ever made! In 90 days, I learned how to eat better, and I felt better than I had in months!! I didn't feel depressed. I actually felt hopeful!

After P90X I did Insanity, and then I did a 1/2 marathon 11 months after my baby was born! I was able to lose all 62 pounds in 11 months! It would have taken me much longer if I wouldn't have done Beachbody's workouts.

In August of 2011, I had another baby. This time I was DETERMINED not to get depressed. I knew what to do this time! I actually gained about the same amount of weight, but I was able to lose it twice as fast! I started with Insanity, and then Turbo Fire

This is a picture of me about a month ago at our Shakeology Taste Testing Party. I'm feeling great! Beachbody's workouts have really helped me get fit and their meal plans have taught me how to eat healthier.

This time I was able to run a half marathon 7 months after our baby was born!

This was me on March 17, 2012 in Washington D.C. after my 1/2 marathon.

Beachbody's workouts and meal plans have really helped me accomplish my goals. They've helped me WIN the battle of being healthy and fit. It hasn't been easy, and I haven't been perfect at doing everything right, but I've been able to win the battle. That's all that matters to me! :)

A Day in the Life- It's a Skinny New Year!

Post by Shannon

On Dec. 15 I wrote a post called, "I'm Dreaming of A Skinny New Year."  I used one of the skinniest pictures I could find for the post. :) This picture was taken in the summer of 2005 a few years before I had my first baby.

I still use that picture for motivation. It is good to find a photo of yourself or someone you want to look like to motivate you and put it somewhere you can see it each day.

My goal is to get back to 135 (where I was in the picture above). Right now I'm 142.5. I'm getting closer!

This photo was taken last week. I'm so excited that I can fit into these jeans! That was an accomplishment for me!!

I have been on this weight lost journey ever since I had our second daughter in August. My first goal was to get into the 140's (I was in the 190's in Aug.) by February. I'm excited that I reached that goal and was able to have "a skinny new year!" :)

My second goal was to run the Rockin' Roll Half Marathon in Washington D.C. on March 17. I have been training for the race since last October. I was doing great with the training. My last big run was 9.5 miles! I was proud of that!

Unfortunately, I hurt my back... I was really disappointed. I have been so excited to run this race!

I have been going to the chiropractor, icing, walking, taking Omega 3's to reduce the inflammation and taking it easy. I am planning to fly to Washington D.C. on Thursday. My back has been feeling better the past few days so I am hoping to be able to do the race.

My goal right now is to at least walk / run it! I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned for Saturday...

How to Lose 30 Pounds and Keep it Off!

The National Weight Control Registry did a study of people who lost 30 pounds or more and kept it off...

Those people did three things:

1. Worked out at home
2. Weighed themselves regularly
3. Ate breakfast

Let's get going everyone!

We are 14 days into the New Year. If you haven't started a plan to help you with your exercise and healthy eating, now is the time to start!
