Workout Review: Hip Hop Abs Part II

Every Thursday we spotlight a Beachbody workout program or product. Last week we talked a little about Hip Hop Abs, but we wanted to tell you a little more today.

Here is a review from someone who has been using Hip Hop Abs for a few weeks now:

"Hip Hop Abs was created by Shaun T, the same trainer who made the famous Insanity workout videos.

The DVDs include an instructional video (Secret to Flat Abs) that break down how to do the basic moves. It also includes 5 workouts: Fat Burning Cardio, Total Body Burn, Hip/Buns/Thighs, Last Minute Abs and Abs Sculpt. The workouts are generally 30 minutes long with the Last Minute Abs being just 5 minutes in length. I use the Last Minute Abs on days when I feel crunched for time or if I want to do a little extra after completing one of the other workouts. But just because it is only 5 minutes doesn't mean it isn't a kick in the tush. It's INTENSE!

What I love about Hip Hop Abs is that it is comprised primarily of dance moves that target your stomach. But don't be fooled! Even as you focus on your core, you are always working the rest of your body out, too! You hardly ever get down on the floor, spending the majority of your time in different combinations of moves while tightening your stomach muscles. Not once does Shaun T. have you do a sit-up or crunch!
It's fun, it's engaging, and it gets your heart pumping all while you move and groove to fun dance music. It's never boring as Shaun changes it up constantly with different arm movements and combinations.

If you are looking for a fun workout without high impact, think about trying Hip Hop Abs.
You'll love it as much as I do!"

A Day in the Life- Working Out With Kids

Post by Shannon

Before we had kids, it was so easy to work out! I didn't realize how easy I had it! I'd go sleep for 8-9 hours (continuously), wake up early and go exercise. The hardest part was getting myself to wake up early (6 a.m.) before work at 8 a.m. But that doesn't seem so hard now!

Now that we have kids, it's another story! Some times we don't get much sleep (our baby is 5 months and the older one is 2 1/2). It's hard when you only get 4-5 hours a sleep to wake up and exercise. Some times I feel like laying in bed and not getting up... On those days I end up exercising when the kids are awake.

Exercise when they are awake can be a challenge in itself! The older one wants to exercise with me. We've tripped over each other a few times! The baby cries a lot... I love them, but it's a lot easier when they're asleep!

So my motivation to work out in the morning is to have a few minutes of quiet time before the kids wake up.

My motivation for exercise is to have energy to keep up with my cute little girls! I want to be able to run around the park, play dolls, have a tea party, make a snowman, etc.

My goal is to be a fun, in shape mom, and that means I need to exercise each day! Even if it's hard to fit it in some days.

P90X vs. Insanity

Post by Shannon & Patrick

We have both tried P90X and Insanity. Since we started the programs people have asked us which one we like better.

This is what we think.

Facts about P90X:

-12 workouts
-90 days
-Awesome meal plan with recipes!
-It is a mix of cardio, weights, stretching, Yoga
-You need some equipment (weights, chin up bar, pushup stands & Yoga mat). Some things are optional like the push up stands and Yoga mat.
-The workouts are 60-90 minutes.
-We think this workout is good to get toned and ripped. It can help you lose weight too.
-P90X is more serious.

Overall, we think this one is good if you want to lift weights, get ripped/toned and like a well rounded workout. Each workout is awesome! Patrick likes this one better than Insanity. Patrick didn't like Insanity.

Facts about Insanity:

-It has a lot of cardio.
-60 days.
-It is AWESOME for losing weight.
-10 workouts.
-There are A LOT of pushups!
-You don't need any equipment except for an optional Yoga mat.
-A heart rate monitor is very helpful.
-Workouts are 35-55 minutes.
-It is more upbeat than P90X.
-It has a lot of interval training.

Overall, this is a really fun workout if you like aerobics, track drills, or jumping. This one is for a shorter time period and the workouts are shorter in the first month. This is great for losing weight, but not as good for getting toned or ripped like P90X. Shannon likes this one better than P90X, but is also a big fan of P90X.

Stay tuned for which workouts we will be started in January!
